To photograph means to communicate one’s vision of something important, beautiful, terrifying… Photographs capture our attention because of the vividness of what they communicate to us, to each in a specific personalized manner. Thus, photographs become the impetus for a whole specter of emotions and often stay in our mind. Each one of us remembers certain photographs, exactly because of the feeling they evoke or the thoughts they awaken…

Through the years, photographs by Tania D’Avignon have brought images of Ukraine to many corners of the world, and in return, images of her worldwide travels to those in Ukraine. Her global kaleidoscope of faces and styles – ranging in age, ethnicity, religion, occupation, location – is living testimony to her ability as a photographer not only to click a camera but also to relate to the subject. I have a feeling that no one has seen Tania photograph in silence. Her natural curiosity comes in the questions, followed by easy-going conversation strewn with humor, coupled with a genuine respect for every individual and for all things living.
